Internship
No link

Description:
This assignment allowed us to spend 100 hours in a media center, 8 hours in a Middle School Media Center and 8 hours in a High School Media Center. Here we were able to put our theoretical knowledge into practice.

What did I learn?
I spent the majority of my internship hours in my own media center. Among the other many things that I was able to accomplish was to establish a connection to the local public library. My school has been designated as a depository library, which means that the public library brings books to the school for the students to check out from the school. As their collection is larger than mine, they are able to provide resources to supplement many of our curriculum units. In addition, they donated an encyclopedia set to the media center. In return I publicize their events, provide them with booklists and help them issue library cards to our students. During my internship I served on the design team. This team plans curriculum and professional development opportunities for the school. Among our other activities we revised several curriculum units for the entire school to reflect changes in the new Georgia Professional Standards. We will have to repeat this again this summer as Georgia is changing their science standards.

Sub-standard Addressed:
Connection with the Library Community; Instructional Partner; Educational Leader.

Program Development and Evaluation Plan
Link to PDEP (6300)

Description:
This collaborative assignment allowed us to develop what is sometimes called a media plan. This plan contains the media center goals and visions, needs assessment and evaluation, budgeting considerations, short and long-term goals and the role of the Media Committee. It is, in short, a blueprint for what you intend to do with your media center.

What did I learn?
The process of creating a professional development and evaluation plan that aligns with the goals in Information Power provided me with the opportunity to systematically plan to increase collaboration and act as an instructional partner in such areas as selection and acquisition by involving teachers in the selection of books relevant to the curriculum they teach. The plan calls for increased collaboration with the public library, creation of a professional resources area and providing professional development opportunities to help teachers reach their full potential as instructors.

Sub-standards Addressed:
Connection with the Library Community; Instructional Partner; Educational Leader.
