Order
Link to assignment (6340)

Description:
This collaborative assignment provided a realistic way for us to practice implementing our selection policy by placing an imaginary order for books. We went through the entire process, using our selection policy to determine our needs, researching books and other media that would fill those needs, selecting a source, filling out the order, and justifying the order to a media committee.

What did I learn?
Placing this order necessitated taking into consideration the need for careful financial planning to select the best possible media available for the needs of our students. In order to best manage our information resources my teammates and I examined our collection to see if it supported the Georgia Professional Standards. Having made this evaluation we consulted established review sources and sought the advice of practitioners in the field so that we could select a diversity of books and other media that best supported the needs of our school and students.

Sub-standards Addressed:
Managing Information resources: Selecting, Organizing, Using; Managing Program Resources: Human, Financial, and Physical.

Program Development and Evaluation Plan
Link to PDEP (6300)

Description:
This collaborative assignment allowed us to develop what is sometimes called a media plan. This plan contains the media center goals and visions, needs assessment and evaluation, budgeting considerations, short and long-term goals and the role of the Media Committee. It is, in short, a blueprint for what you intend to do with your media center.

What did I learn?
The PDEP is a document that establishes a strategic plan to support the goals of the school. Collaborative planning, responsible budgeting and evaluation or assessment of the goals are directly called for in the plan.

Sub-standards Addressed:
Comprehensive and Collaborative Strategic Planning and Assessment.
